31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 11

Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn

This is more than a book and a film – it’s a movement.

My mom sent me Half the Sky as a just-because-gift because she has the link to my Amazon Wish List.  My Mom Rocks!

I put this book on my list because each year I pick a word to study and this year I’ve chosen to study the word women. I am completely fascinated with our role in society – past, present and future, and felt like now was as good of time as any to study it.  I’m specifically interested in how the role of mom connects me to women all over this world and how eternally grateful I am for my 1st world problems.

Half the Sky is full of real stories about women dealing with such unbelievable circumstances that it will make you want to slap the crap out of the person in front of you complaining that their latte order isn’t correct.  It’s graphic, heart breaking and inspiring…

I couldn’t recommend it more – although I have to admit it’s getting into my soul. Last night my daughter was complaining about no ice cream in the freezer and I said don’t come to me with your 1st world problems… #rockmom :)
