31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 8

I am the worst speller on the planet and my grammar skills are nothing to write home about so it’s with great humility that I share with you my biggest pet peeve.

The correct spelling of a lot is with two words.

In high school I wrote a really great paper.  I have no memory as to what it was about, but I remember being really proud of it.  I gave it to my boyfriend to proof read and the one error he sent back was that I had spelled a lot as one word.  UGH!  This was before computers so I had no choice but to rewrite the entire paper.

Lesson learned.

I don’t know why it’s such a pet peeve of mine.  I guess I see it and it still reminds me of that freakin’ paper.

And they say time heals all wounds.

  1. Oh man, that’s a pet peeve of mine, too. As are a lot of grammatical errors similar to that. Remember those days when everything was written BY HAND??? There were no room for mistakes! LOL.

The correct spelling of a lot is on the top of my list! I write for a living, but I was a terrible speller in high school. My English teacher (a nun), even said to me, “honey, you’re a beautiful writer, but you can’t spell worth s**t.” Yes, she used the actual bleeped out word. She was a very cool nun, lol! I’ve learned a lot over the years, but I still rely on spell-check often.

Love her! My only issue with spell check is that it can’t read my mind. I spell so bad that sometimes it can’t help me. HA!

I’m right there with ya! Read this. Not only will make you giggle, it may help you the next time you encounter an “alot”.
