I love sitting in churches just to take in the stained glass.  Complex or simple, it doesn’t matter to me, there is something about the way light filters through that makes my soul say ahhhh.

I took this picture inside The Cathedral of St. John The Baptist in Savannah, GA.  The stained glass inside this church is awe inspiring.  The colors and the stories set to glass draw me in.

I created a piece not too long ago where I drew inspiration from the stained glass windows that decorate the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.  The Mother Church of Country Music showcases a beautiful wall of stained glass windows that thankfully were not lost when a corporate highrise was built beside it.

This commissioned piece was for a fiddle player and I wanted to give the impression of the Ryman in the background.  To create the effect I glued New Year’s Eve confetti into the window shape and then painted the black lines in.

Have you ever used the idea of stained glass in your art?  Or does the picture above inspire your creative juices?  I’d love to see your art and hear about your techniques.

We (my husband and I) were traveling through North Carolina a few years ago and I had the idea of a Stained Glass Heart. It makes me think how light enters the eye and can travel down to a complex heart full of different colored emotions… green with envy, blue with tears, red with a fiery passion.

What do you think of when you think of a stained glass heart?

Peace In!
