I posted this on my facebook profile last week… I stole it from Maria Housden’s post, so this is not my idea, but it was a great one never the less.

Love this idea! ♥ SHARE THE LOVE 2011: I will send something handmade/homemade to the first 5 people who leave a comment here. They agree, in turn, to post this and send something they make to the first 5 people who comment on their status.

Today, Peyton and I made clay beads to decorate our hair and magnets to send to our friends.  I used a non-toxic polymer because Peyton was “playing” with me and she was thrilled to  picked out the colors.  Purple, Blue and Green… yummy!

To make the magnets we hand rolled a lot of thin lines of clay, wrapping them around each other, adding layers, and folding them over until we had a large log of clay.  I cut them into sections to show off the abstract design, rounded them a bit and toasted them in the oven for about 15 minutes.

After they cooled we glued them to magnets.

I forgot how messy rolling clay for a few hours can be.  Next time I’d probably pick up some latex gloves.  Other than that we used tools around the house, a pencil to roll the clay, and a “dedicated art knife” to cut it.

Hope our facebook friends can use a few handmade fridge magnets!

Peace In!
